Bayview House,
Portessie,
Near Buckie,
Banffshire
Betten 8
Dotted along the southern coastline of the Moray Firth, where stretches of lovely sands and golf-links neighbour steep cliffs sheltering rocky bays hidden from view, are a string of former fishing villages which still retain the character and traditions of a long sea-faring past.
Such a tiny place is Portessie - just over one hour's drive from Inverness, and near to Buckie (shops, hotels) - where Bayview is a lovely spacious family house right on the seafront with spectacular views across miles of the Moray Firth to the mountains of Caithness and Sutherland in the distance.
Built in the early 19th Century for a local fishing family who sailed from the very bay in front of it, this old house was doubled in size in 1974, and is now a spacious, comfortably-furnished, well-equipped house that makes a great holiday home from which two families, or a party of friends, can explore this fascinating comparatively-unknown corner of Scotland. Great scenery, historic castles, whisky distilleries, quiet beaches, sailing, fishing, boat-trips to watch the dolphins, golf-courses galore, a Lighthouse and other Fishery Museums - and the great sea air - all combine to send visitors home refreshed and invigorated.
Heating is by gas central heating and electricity (up to £15 worth
included). Bed-linen is
included and towels are available for hire. Pets are welcome by arrangement.
