Harbour Apartment from the water

Harbour Apartment
Arbroath
Angus

Betten 6

Historic Arbroath, on the Angus coast, 20 miles east of Dundee, clusters round its ruined Abbey, where the historic Declaration of Arbroath, asking the Pope to recognize Scotland's claim to independence, was signed in 1320. Latterly, it has been a thriving fishing port, and of course, home to the world renowned Arbroath 'smokies', which can still be bought from numerous little smokeries in its narrow streets.

Marina

The harbour now plays host to a magnificent marina, rather than fleets of fishing vessels, and the Harbour Apartment, as its name suggests, has a front row view of this splendid sight. On the second floor of an imposing red sandstone townhouse, its south facing windows mean the apartment gets all the sun that's going. To the rear, there is a small, secluded (shared) grass garden. Inside, it is well appointed and most comfortably furnished, an excellent base for an enjoyable family holiday.

There is ample free parking on the quay outside, while the apartment is one of the few which can also be reached easily by public transport. Once you are there, you may find it hard to tear yourself away from the harbour view, but the town and the surrounding area do amply repay exploration. Children will enjoy the miniature railway which operates in the summer months on the outskirts of the town, within walking distance of the apartment, and there is a fabulous beach 7 miles up the road at Lunan Bay. Golfers will doubtless head 'straight down the middle' to the hallowed links at Carnoustie, just 7 miles away, (though there are many other excellent and less expensive courses in the immediate area). Wildlife enthusiasts will be interested in the Montrose Basin (13m), a haven for many kinds of seabirds. Inland, walkers can make for the Angus glens, via Forfar and Kirriemuir, the birthplace of J M Barrie of Peter Pan fame. Dundee has many tourist attractions, including Captain Scott's polar exploration vessel, Discovery, which is moored in the harbour, and from there you can drive across the Tay Bridge to Fife and St Andrews.

Central heating, electricity and bed linen and included!included and towels may be hired. Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome by arrangement. Smoking is not permitted within the apartment.
