The Outer Hebrides, on the very edge of Britain, are still largely undiscovered by mass tourism and offer the visitor peace and tranquillity, dramatic, wild, unspoilt landscapes and glorious empty beaches. Highgales, situated in the village of Gravir on the scenic east coast of Lewis, has a commanding location on the hill above Loch Odhairn with spectacular views across the inlet and away to the Minch beyond.

This is a most snug and comfortable cottage, well furnished and equipped by the American owners for their own use, yet retaining such original and traditional features as the wood panelled walls in the sitting room, where there is a welcoming open fire. The upstairs bedrooms have coombed ceilings and the views from all the windows are truly superb.

This is truly a place to unwind, away from the intrusions of modern life and 21st century cares. Wile away peaceful days fishing either on the sea loch in front of the house or in the many surrounding fresh water lochs, or, if you are feeling more energetic, put your boots on for a spot of hillwalking. There is also scope for various water sports.

The nearest shop is 6 miles away at Cearshiader and there is a lively pub with good food just 8 miles away. Stornoway, the 'capital' of Lewis, is 30 miles to the north and offers shops, supermarkets and a range of leisure facilities.

While you are at Highgales, however, it would be a pity not to see some of the 'sights' of the island, the Callanish standing stones for example, or take the road down to Harris (all part of the same island, or even take a boat trip across to South Uist.

Central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are all included in the rental. Sorry no pets and smoking is not permitted within the property.
