The Rhinns of Galloway (that's the bit that sticks out into the Irish Sea facing Ireland) is one of the most picturesque and peaceful areas of Southern Scotland. On the eastern edge of the Rhinns, just a couple of miles from the glorious beaches around Luce Bay, is the village of Stoneykirk. Hunter's Moon Cottage, which started life as a stable serving the nearby 'Big House' is about 200 yards from the village (2 pub/hotels), standing in its own secluded yard and small garden.

Now it is a comfortable holiday cottage, well furnished and equipped and centrally heated, a most pleasant base from which to explore this historic and fascinating area.

The nearest town is Stranraer, from where there is a 90 minute crossing to Belfast, if you fancy a bit of international travel: you can make a day trip to view the Giant's Causeway. Closer to home, however, are the lovely beaches at Sandhead and New England Bay. There are botanical gardens at picturesque Port Logan, which is where the series '2000 Acres of Sky' was filmed. The Castle Kennedy Gardens, 3 miles from Stranraer, are also among Scotland's finest. Portpatrick is another quaint little village, clustered round its harbour and boasting several excellent pubs and restaurants. (It is also the starting point of the Southern Upland Way).The Mull of Galloway, Scotland's most southerly point, is just 17 miles from the cottage. There is a Stevenson lighthouse there and it is also a well-known RSPB reserve. In the other direction, the New Galloway Forest is only a 30 minute drive and offers excellent cycle trails.

There are several good golf courses in the immediate vicinity, but if you are looking for something really special, you can take a trip up to Turnberry, which is only about 40 miles away. There, too, you are in Burns Country which again amply repays exploration.

Bed linen and towels, oil-fired central heating and the first £10 of electricity are included . Sorry, no pets, and smoking is not permitted within the cottage.
