Longformacus (pronounced Long-for-make-us) is a picturesque little village in the south east of Scotland between the Lammermuirs and the Merse, just 7 miles from the market town of Duns. In the middle of a mellow row of terraced houses in a quiet cul-de-sac beside a stream, Sanctuary Cottage is a real roses-round-the-door little house, full of charm and character.

Downstairs, there is a cosy sitting room with the original range fire, a well equipped dining/kitchen and a rather stunning bathroom which punches well above its weight as average cottage bathrooms go! Upstairs, there are two bedrooms and a sunny upper lounge seating area with a door to the garden at the back. Tenants also have access to a picturesque terraced garden, a little way along the cul de sac, which goes right down to the stream.

Longformacus is on the Southern Upland Way, which means you can walk out either to the coast, or inland. There is fishing on the local reservoir, for which permits are available in the village. There is a golf course at Duns (all facilities), and many others within a short distance of the cottage. The nearest shops are also at Duns.

You are within half an hour's drive of the lovely sandy beach at Coldingham, and the spectacular cliffs at St Abbs, one of the best diving sites in Europe. Visit the RSPB reserve there and view the amazing seabird colonies as you walk along the cliffs to the lighthouse.

And with all this, you are still within an hour's drive of Edinburgh, and just 22 miles from historic Berwick on Tweed, from where you can visit Lindisfarne, Bamburgh, Alnwick Castle and the other attractions of the Northumberland coast.

Bed linen and towels, oil central heating and electricity are all included. Up to two well behaved pets are welcome by arrangement. Sorry, no smoking in the cottage.
