Schiehallion Cottage
Nr Aberfeldy
Perthshire
Scotland

Betten 2, 1 bedroom

Schiehallion Cottage is to be found at the end of the tiny village of Dull, 3 miles west of Aberfeldy in Highland Perthshire. Separated from the village behind by the ancient Kirk of St. Adamnan's (now closed), it has uninterrupted views west across fields to Drummond Hill, Ben Lawers and the entrance to historic Glen Lyon. The comfortable and unusual accommodation has been recently converted out of a cluster of outbuildings in the garden above the old schoolhouse of Dull.

Deck Dull was the oldest collegiate college in Scotland and when it moved to St. Andrew's via Dunkeld in 1413, it became the origins of the university there. In 1790 there were 100 children learning Greek and Latin in the present school building, now home to a writer and garden designer.

This romantic cottage for two was created for the marriage of the owner's daughter and is known by the family as 'the honeymoon suite'. Scented old fashioned roses and honeysuckle scramble up the walls, while pots of herbs are handily placed for the kitchen.

Leanto The cottage is approached up stone steps onto a deck enclosed on three sides by a rose covered rustic trellis creating a private area. Two sets of double glass doors lead into the light, wood-lined living/dining/kitchen. These can be opened right out to create an outdoor/indoor living space in summer. The deck has its own garden furniture and barbecue. The large bedroom, also wood-lined, is up three steps. This is equipped with a king sized bed, TV point and internally wired hi-fi system switching from the living room. There is a glass door onto a small west facing deck for watching the sunset over the mountains. Up three more steps is a dressing room/lobby off which is a bathroom with power shower and separate wc.

View Good pubs, restaurants and shops can be found in and around Aberfeldy (3 miles) and Pitlochry, home to the Festival Theatre, is 12 miles.

This area, known as the Heartland of Scotland, is an excellent base for exploring the Highlands. Walking, Munro-bagging, water sports, riding, golf courses, castles, distilleries and many more attractions are available within a very short distance. Further afield, to the north is the winter sports centre of Aviemore (58m), to the south, Perth (33m) and Edinburgh (76m) and to the west Oban (74m) and Fort William (85m).
