Tigh Grianach Cottage

Put your feet up and watch the boats go by. This is most certainly the order of the day for visitors to Tigh Grianach, a delightful, traditional, white painted semi detached cottage right on the banks of the scenic Crinan Canal, in the little village of Cairnbaan, just 3 miles north-west of Lochgilphead (shops, pubs, restaurants, swimming pool) in the west of Scotland.
Tigh Grianach means 'The Sunny House' in Gaelic and as it faces south it receives its full share of sunshine. Behind, there are wooded hills which are perfect for walking. It has a large, fenced garden and off-road parking for up to three cars. The large sitting/dining room overlooks the canal and to the back there is a well equipped galley kitchen. Upstairs are bright double and twin bedded rooms.
There are some excellent eating places along the canal. As it is only 9 miles long, it is quite feasible to walk or cycle the entire length of the towpath in a day. From Crinan Harbour it is possible to take cruises to the Isle of Jura and the spectacular whirlpool at Corryvreckan. To the north, the collection of prehistoric sites in Kilmartin Glen are a must-see for anyone with even a passing interest in history or archaeology. Cycles may be hired at Lochgilphead and there is also pony trekking there. Further afield, visitors can explore the Mull of Kintyre and visit Inveraray with its castle and jail.
Heating is by electricity (
included). Bed linen and towels are
included. Well behaved dogs are welcome by arrangement but should be kept under strict control (sorry no cats). No smoking within the cottage.
